Elephanta Island
Elephanta Island is located on an island in Mumbai Harbour, Mumbai, India. Known in ancient times as Gharapuri, named the Elephanta island. The Island was once the capital of a powerful local kingdom, the Temples where carved out of rocks being a popular Tourist attraction.
The island is roughly 6 miles from South East coast of the Mumbai city and is accessible by Ferry or Boat. The drive is around 1 hour and their are boats that leave daily first at 9am and last at 2pm.
Once arrived at the island you are invited by a step of stairs that lead straight up to the caves.
