The Cathedral is the Church of Christ. Blessed St Cuthbert of Durham and Mary the Virgin, commonly known as Durham Cathedral and home of the Shrine of St Cuthbert. It was and still is the seat of the Bishop of Durham, he was the fourth-ranked bishop in the Church of England hierarchy.
